Walker Buehler has been placed on the postseason paternity list as the San Diego Padres prepare for Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Buehler will be away from the Padres for a minimum of one day and a maximum of three days. Randy Vásquez has taken his place on the active roster and will remain there until Buehler returns.
The roster move comes with San Diego trailing Milwaukee 1-0 in the best-of-five series after the Brewers won Saturday’s opener 3-2 at American Family Field.
According to Sammy Levitt of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Buehler is expected to return to the Padres once his time away is complete. Major League Baseball’s transaction log also confirms that Buehler was placed on the paternity list Oct. 3 and Vásquez was activated the same day.
Buehler finished the regular season 9-6 with a 4.63 ERA, 131 strikeouts and a 1.35 WHIP across 153 2/3 innings. He made 32 starts for San Diego after joining the Padres for the 2026 season.

Vásquez gives San Diego another starting option after going 10-6 with a 3.90 ERA, 87 strikeouts and a 1.27 WHIP in 140 2/3 innings. He made 23 starts in 32 appearances during the regular season.
The Padres entered the NLDS after finishing 91-71, while Milwaukee posted a franchise-record 103-59 mark. The Brewers took Game 1 after Jackson Chourio’s two-run homer tied the game and William Contreras’ seventh-inning solo shot put Milwaukee ahead.
San Diego will turn to Michael King for Game 2, while Milwaukee is scheduled to start Logan Henderson. The Padres need a win Sunday to even the series before it shifts to Petco Park.
