The San Diego Padres have made it official, selecting outfield prospect Jase Bowen to make his MLB debut on Tuesday afternoon.

When the news of Bowen's call up was first reported yesterday by Kiley McDaniel of ESPN, it was unclear how the Padres would handle the corresponding move to add him to the 40-man roster.

Tuesday brough some clarity, and to clear room the club has placed Ramón Laureano on the 10-day injured list retroactive to May 31st due to right hip inflammation. They also transferred Nick Pivetta to the 60-day injured list as he works his way back from an early season elbow injury.

It is unclear when Laureano first injured his hip, but the nagging issue kept him out of Sunday's series finale with the Washington Nationals. Before that, the 31-year-old had struggled at the plate, batting just .133 with a .524 OPS in the month of May. Now on the IL, the Padres could look to build his confidence back up with a minor league rehab assignment once he is healthy enough to return.

As for Pivetta, the veteran right-hander has already spent 49 days on the IL after suffering a flexor strain in his fourth start of the year. With his return not expected until after the All-Star break, his move to the 60-day frees up a spot on the 40-man to get Bowen involved.

In need of an offensive spark, San Diego hopes that their 23-ranked prospect can deliver a boost. He will be in the lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies, wearing number 4, batting seventh and playing left field in his first big league game.

Bowen spent his first six seasons in the Pirates minor league system after they selected him in the 11th round in 2019. The 25-year-old began to come on in 2025, earning a promotion to Triple-A where he slashed .294/.386/.484 across 36 games. But Bowen was not given a roster spot in Pittsburgh and instead signed a minor league deal with the Padres this offseason.

So far this year, Bowen owns an impressive .292 batting average and .962 OPS with 13 home runs and seven stolen bases in 49 games with Triple-A El Paso. With a combination of speed and pop, the righty-swinging outfielder has a good opportunity to impact winning right away for a Padres team that ranks second to last in OPS (.656).
