Green Bay Packers fans waiting on another pass catcher before the Nov. 10 trade deadline have a name to watch.
Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame ranked the 15 players who could be moved and put Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin Jr. at No. 15, listing Green Bay and the New York Giants as potential fits.
Godwin already headlined our list of Buccaneers who could be dealt after a slow start.
Godwin, 30, has spent all 10 of his NFL seasons in Tampa Bay. He posted three straight 1,000-yard seasons from 2021 to 2023, with 1,103, 1,023 and 1,024 yards. Injuries limited him to 16 games across 2024 and 2025, and this year has been quiet. He has 23 catches for 216 yards and no touchdowns through six games, while Tampa Bay has waited on Baker Mayfield’s thumb and started rookie Jalon Daniels. His 65.4 receiving grade ranks 56th among 80 qualifying receivers, according to PFF.
Why the Packers could use Chris Godwin
Green Bay is 4-2 after a 23-13 win over Dallas at Lambeau Field, but the receiver room is thinner than it was in August.
The Packers traded Dontayvion Wicks to Philadelphia in April, and Jayden Reed will miss the rest of the season after a neck injury suffered in Week 2 against the Jets.
Matthew Golden leads the team with 30 catches and 57 targets, and Christian Watson leads with 538 yards. Behind them, head coach Matt LaFleur has asked several receivers to fill the gap.
“I would say it’s going to be by committee,” LaFleur said, according to Spectrum News 1. “Bo Melton, J Mike, all those guys are going to have to share the load.”
Godwin would give quarterback Jordan Love a proven option underneath. His average depth of target is 3.9 yards this season, according to PFF.
The asking price is the biggest hurdle here.
Godwin carries a fully guaranteed $22 million base salary in 2026, according to his Spotrac contract page, and a buyer would owe the remaining portion. His deal also includes a 2027 club option with a $20.5 million base salary and a $1.5 million roster bonus.
Green Bay has $7.8 million in cap space, per Over the Cap, so salary would likely have to go back to Tampa Bay.
The 1-5 Bucs could break from Jason Licht’s trade habits.
Green Bay just has to decide whether a 30-year-old receiver is worth anything resembling a significant haul.
