With the 2026 NFL season just around the corner, the Green Bay Packers have an important decision to make on running back Josh Jacobs.
Jacobs was arrested in May on five charges, which included misdemeanor counts of assault, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct and intimidation of a victim. It was later announced on Aug. 27 that his charges were reduced to misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property.
“Our office sought to ensure a fair and complete review of available evidence, some of which only recently became available to our office due to significant, ongoing forensic efforts by law enforcement,” Brown County District Attorney David L. Lasee said in a statement. “A criminal complaint is nothing more than a written, formal accusation against a defendant alleging the commission of criminal offenses and does not raise any inference of guilt. Mr. Jacobs is presumed innocent of these charges. As this is an ongoing criminal case, and out of respect for the rights of all parties, our office will not have further comment on the matter at this time.”
The complaint states that a woman, who was identified as Jacobs’ girlfriend, noticed that he was talking to other women on his phone. After she allegedly threw his phone, the Pro Bowl running back grabbed her arm and went through her phone. She later accused him of striking her in the head while she was trying to leave his garage.
A police officer “observed redness to [her] face and neck and was able to feel that she had a bump on the back of her head. She described that she was in pain as a result of the injuries.” The authorities also said there’s surveillance footage from the garage where some of this altercation took place.

After these alleged details were shared with the public, NFL fans urged the Packers to part ways with Jacobs.
“Packers should release him right now,” one fan wrote on X.
“I hate to say this as a Packers fan, but I think they should move on from him. I know they don’t have a legit replacement on the roster, and the team won’t be as good without him, but this is disturbing,” a second fan commented.
“He should never play another down in the NFL again,” another fan said.
“Cut him now,” a fan declared.
Will the Packers cut Josh Jacobs?
It’s certainly possible the Packers move on from Jacobs, but a move isn’t imminent at this time.
“We are aware of the charges brought against Josh Jacobs,” the team said Thursday. “We will continue to cooperate with the NFL as we work through the process. We will have no further comment at this time.”
Since joining the Packers in 2024, Jacobs has rushed for 2,258 yards and 28 touchdowns on 535 attempts. If he misses time this season, MarShawn Lloyd would get the bulk of the carries.
