Oregon provided an encouraging update on quarterback Dante Moore after a targeting hit sent him to a Los Angeles hospital during the Ducks’ 41-27 victory over USC.
The school announced Moore sustained a concussion but avoided additional injuries, with both his MRI and CT scans coming back clean after USC linebacker Desman Stephens II knocked him unconscious Saturday.
“Dante sustained a concussion in last night’s game but fortunately his MRI and CT scans came back clean and he did not suffer any additional injuries,” Oregon said. “Every concussion is different and we are going to move forward with an abundance of caution to ensure we make the best decisions for Dante and his future.”
Moore scrambled before beginning a slide when Stephens hit him. The USC linebacker was ejected for targeting, and medical personnel evaluated Moore on the field before taking him from the Coliseum by ambulance.
“We are extremely appreciative of our entire medical staff and the medical staffs at USC and L.A. General County Hospital for their quick and thorough action in making sure Dante received the very best care possible,” the school said.
The update followed coach Dan Lanning’s postgame comments that Moore remained in recovery but “has the ability to move.” An Oregon spokesperson also confirmed Saturday that Moore had movement in all of his extremities, while Lanning called Stephens’ hit “a disgusting play” and said Oregon would pray for Moore’s health.

Meanwhile, USC coach Lincoln Riley suspended Stephens for one game Sunday, per ESPN.
“Desman’s actions in last night’s game are unacceptable and are not reflective of USC Football nor of his personal character,” Riley said. “He understands his mistake, accepts the consequences of his actions and will learn from this. The entire Trojan Family wishes Dante a full recovery, and we send our best regards to him and his family.”
Dylan Raiola replaced Moore and threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns as Oregon improved to 3-1.
Oregon next hosts UCLA on Oct. 10 without knowing if Moore will be able to play as he proceeds through the concussion protocol.
