The Oregon Ducks are now 4-3 with Saturday‘s loss to Illinois after entering the year as one of the country’s national title favorites — and fans are left searching for answers.
It’s been a nightmare season for Dan Lanning and Co. from the very first time they took the field against Boise State in Week 1. And now their CFP hopes are all but dead before the calendar has even turned to November.
Taking to social media after yet another disappointing defeat, Ducks fans said they expect major “changes” going into next year.

Oregon fans sound off on Oregon’s ’embarrassing’ 4-3 start
Speaking to the media following Week 8’s result, Lanning was asked whether or not his team will make a change at OC.
“I think all things are on the table for us to make sure that we’re the best version of ourselves, and we’re currently not that. That’s very clear,” Lanning said (via Ryan Clarke of The Oregonian).
Fans gave their thoughts across the message boards:
“I still believe in Lanning because the team is playing hard and they are prepared to play. He’s built enough equity in the first four years to see the vision. However he clearly made a mistake in the OC hire and there’s some soul searching to be done this offseason on how this happened. Dan’s hired two great OCs previously so we know he gets it,” UO alum Geoff Schwartz shared.
“Dan Lanning is one of the biggest frauds in America,” a user claimed. “He rode Kirby Smart’s coattails into a head coaching job. With unlimited resources, he hasn’t done sh*t at Oregon except jump in pools with recruits and act like a fake tough guy in the media. Fire him today.”
“The amount of talent Oregon is going to lose to the transfer portal…” Alek Arend posted. “Dan Lanning, you completely failed this team this season. The consequences are going to extend well beyond 2026.”
“Serious Dan Lanning problems in Eugene,” a fan announced.
Clearly, this is a lost season for Lanning and the Ducks. But are they a few minor tweaks away or does the problem run deeper?
