With the 2026-27 college basketball season just a few weeks away, the Oregon Ducks learned that Dana Altman won’t be their head coach anymore.
Altman, 68, has decided to retire just before the start of the 2026-27 season. He’s been coaching the Ducks since 2010, leading them to 382 wins and 10 NCAA Tournament appearances.
It’s currently unclear if Altman was tired of coaching or if there’s more to the story. Make no mistake though, Oregon will miss having his leadership on the sideline.
Even though Oregon is known for its success on the football field, Altman helped elevate the school’s basketball program. The height of his run at Oregon was leading the 2016-17 roster to the Final Four.

What’s next for Oregon?
According to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68, Tony Stubblefield is the frontrunner to lead Oregon this season.
Stubblefield last coached at DePaul from 2021-2024, owning a 28-54 record. Although he struggled during Big East play (9-38), it’s possible he’ll have more success with Oregon’s roster.
Oregon is set to begin its season on Nov. 2 against Montana.
