Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons will miss his fourth consecutive game Sunday as he was ruled out for Week 4. Simmons was taken in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He started eight games as a rookie. He missed time due to personal reasons and finished the season on Injured Reserve due to a wrist injury.
“He is making progress,” head coach Andy Reid said of Simmons. “He’s had a bulging disc in his (lower) back. … He’s getting strong, which is important. Backs can be tricky. The positive is he’s here, and he’s getting better. I think we’re heading in the right direction here.”
Undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson has filled in for Simmons at left tackle with mixed results. Benson’s 60.7 PFF grade ranks 51st of 70 tackles. His pass block grade of 46.2 ranks 66th, but his run block grade of 66.4 ranks 29th. Altogether, though, he was good enough to be named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month.
The Chiefs play the undefeated Las Vegas Raiders (3-0) on the road Sunday afternoon. The offensive line will be crucial in slowing down elite defensive end Maxx Crosby, who has 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble on the season. Mahomes has been sacked four times on the season but wasn’t sacked at all last week against the Miami Dolphins.
