For the New York Jets, retaining offensive lineman Olu Fashanu for the long haul has to be one of the team's most important priorities.
Fashanu has been a significant contributor on the Jets' offensive line, giving the team a potential cornerstone at left tackle for years to come.
However, as the Jets continue their rebuild, New York will have a tough decision on whether to secure its young talent with long-term contracts.
Bleacher Report Lists Olu Fashanu Among Jets' Biggest Contract Decisions

Bleacher Report listed Olu Fashanu's potential contract extension as one of the Jets' most important contract decisions heading into the 2026 NFL season.
"The New York Jets are in the opening stages of a ground-up rebuild. One of the decisions the team faces is whether to lock up the young talent the team has spent high picks on in recent years. Next up on that list is left tackle Olu Fashanu, who the Jets drafted in the first round in 2024," Gary Davenport wrote.
"Per Jacob Infante of PFSN, Fashanu showed improvement in his second season. But it's still not a lock that Fashanu will be extended next spring. 'The New York Jets got incredible results out of 2025 first-round pick Armand Membou at right tackle immediately,' he said. "But it's been a slower process for their 2024 first-round pick, left tackle Olu Fashanu. He improved his PFN OL Impact Score from 58.9 to 73.8 in the jump to Year 2, but he's still behind other 2024 draft picks like Joe Alt, Amarius Mims, and Roger Rosengarten. Fashanu will need to continue to improve this year to secure a big extension."
"For his part, Fashanu is turning heads at Jets camp. But the youngster needs another jump forward in 2026 to inspire the Jets to lock him up for the long run."
Olu Fashanu Important Year Ahead
The Jets' offensive line is their strongest position group, and Fashanu is among the reasons why.
Fashanu, who split time at right tackle and right guard before settling in at left tackle, has become one of the Jets' most important members of that unit.
His physical transformation was one of the major talking points entering training camp. He arrived after gaining muscle during the offseason.
The Jets selected Fashanu in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft with the intention of shoring up their offensive line. Since then, he has emerged as one of the team's most important pass protectors.
New York has assembled a promising offensive line that features talent like Armand Membou and Olu Fashanu giving the franchise a strong foundation moving forward.
