The Ole Miss Rebels may have gone a tad overboard by choosing to commemorate their College Football Playoff run.

Ole Miss defied a lot of the odds to reach the semifinals of the College Football Playoff earlier this year, destroying Tulane and stunning SEC champion Georgia before narrowly losing to Miami. But while it's an accomplishment to be proud of, the Rebels may have gone a tad overboard by choosing to commemorate the run.

On Wednesday, Ole Miss unveiled the rings that the program gave to all of the players and coaches that contributed to last season's run to the semifinals. They were nice looking rings with the Ole Miss logo in a red stone atop a football-shaped top embedded with gems.

Unfortunately for the team, the reaction from fans was less "impressed" and more "embarrassed."

Fans took to X and mocked the Rebels for commemorating their fourth-place finish in the College Football Playoff.

"Participation Trophy"

"This has to be AI, right? I guess when you never win a national championship, you go the participation trophy route! 😂 What an embarrassment," one user mocked.

"Semi final rings? lmao this is just pathetic," wrote another.

"Wait.. y’all make participation rings? You’re just Mississippi though.. makes sense I guess. So proud of yall! Good job!" a third wrote.

"Lmao. wtf kinda travel baseball (expletive) rings are these. ? Did you win something ?? Poverty program gives out participation rings lol. What the actual (expletive)."

"4th place gets rings now? Lowering the bar is certainly a choice. But you doubled down by putting on the internet so that’s something."

"Ole Miss runts get rings for being losers? Last time I checked, you didn’t make it to Atlanta or win the national championship. That is a fail type of season, and you foolish runts make rings?"

Gone are the days where it was acceptable to celebrate winning anything less than a championship. Nobody respects participation trophies and since Ole Miss didn't win the SEC Championship or the College Football Playoff National Championship game, nobody wants to hear or see them celebrate what they did last year.

But if Ole Miss can seal the deal this year, it will certainly justify these rings as a "step in the right direction" kind of accomplishment.
