Training camp is still days away, but the Edmonton Oilers are already facing questions about roster availability as they prepare for the opening of the 2026-27 season.
The organization spent the offseason addressing several key needs, including overhauling its goaltending depth. To do so, Edmonton signed veteran netminder Frederik Andersen to a one-year, $1 million deal after his Stanley Cup-winning campaign with the Carolina Hurricanes.
On Wednesday, the Oilers released an injury update that affected multiple areas of the roster. The team announced that four of its players will not participate in training camp after suffering injuries during offseason training sessions.

Edmonton revealed that forwards Matt Savoie and Mattias Janmark, along with defenseman Alec Regula and newcomer goalie Andersen, are the men set to miss time sidelined.
The announcement did not include return timelines, but TSN Edmonton’s Ryan Rishaug later provided a more concerning outlook.
According to Rishaug, both Andersen and Savoie are expected to be available “late October or so,” indicating the two could miss the opening weeks of the regular season, with the Oilers set to begin their campaign on Sept. 29 against the Vancouver Canucks.
For Andersen, the setback represents a disappointing delay to his Oilers debut after signing with Edmonton in free agency coming off a title-winning season.
The veteran goaltender was brought in to strengthen Edmonton’s crease following Carolina’s championship run, where he posted a 13-2 record, a 1.89 goals-against average, a .910 save percentage and three shutouts across 16 playoff games.
With Andersen sidelined, Edmonton is expected to begin the season relying on Tristan Jarry and Devon Levi in goal.
Jarry wrapped up last year with a 9-6-1 record, posting a 3.32 GAA and a .882 SV%. Levi, meanwhile, put together a 2-7-0 campaign with a 3.29 GAA and a .894 SV%.
