The Ohio State Buckeyes hosted several top recruits during last weekend’s Student Appreciation Day, bringing prospects to Columbus for a closer look at the program.
One of the key visitors was 2027 quarterback Wonderful “Champ” Monds IV, a Florida product who has remained on Ohio State’s radar even after reclassifying from the 2028 cycle.
Monds is a former No. 1 quarterback recruit, a status he only lost after reclassifying from his original class by moving up a year. Monds is currently the No. 19 QB recruit and a four-star prospect in 247Sports Composite's ranks.
The 6-foot-2, 224-pound quarterback holds nearly three dozen offers, including Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame and Oregon, but Ohio State has remained high throughout his recruitment process.
Despite the Buckeyes already having 2027 No. 19 QB Brady Edmunds committed to the program, Monds sounded like he'd like to join Ohio State.

“It was a great visit overall, getting to see coach Billy Fessler, coach Ryan Day and coach Arthur Smith,” Monds said. “I just wanted to get up there and see them operate the offense again. It was a great experience overall getting to meet Julian Sayin and all the receivers in that wide receiver room and see how much of a brotherhood those guys have.”
Monds also shared his reaction publicly after the trip on X.
“Had a great time at THE Ohio State University!” Monds posted, tagging head coach Ryan Day and quarterbacks coach Billy Fessler.
According to 247Sports' Garrick Hodge, Monds said he would be “completely fine” joining a class with two quarterbacks and entering a competition for the QB1 role.
Ohio State already hosted Monds in June 2025 as a potential 2028 target before his reclassification last December.
The Buckeyes finished the 2025 college football season with a 12-2 record and a CFB playoff loss to the Miami Hurricanes in the Cotton Bowl.
