The New York Knicks were on the brink of a gut-wrenching loss on Wednesday, as they were down 106-105 to the San Antonio Spurs with 5.7 seconds left after erasing a 29-point deficit. However, forward OG Anunoby bailed them out by with a tip-in after star guard Jalen Brunson missed a deep three, putting them up 107-106 with 1.2 ticks left.
Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns then deflected San Antonio's inbounds pass on the final possession, sealing the biggest comeback win in NBA Finals history. The Knicks are now up 3-1 in the series and needs one more victory to win its first championship since 1973.
Less than 24 hours later, New York's local government honored Anunoby for his heroics, per The New York Post's Stefan Bondy.
"NEWS: Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal has proclaimed June 11th, 2026, as OG Anunoby Appreciation Day in the Borough of Manhattan," he reported. Manhattan is the home of Madison Square Garden, the Knicks' arena and the site of Wednesday's game.

General manager Leon Rose largely built New York's roster with savvy trades after taking over in 2020, and none have worked out better than the Anunoby deal. He flipped guard Immanuel Quickley and forward RJ Barrett as well as a 2024 second-round pick (via the Detroit Pistons) to the Toronto Raptors for Anunoby, forward Precious Achiuwa and guard Malachi Flynn in December 2023. Since then, Anunoby has helped the Knicks get to the second round in 2024, the conference finals in 2025 and within one win of a title so far this year.
The 28-year-old earned All-Defensive Second Team honors for the second time in his career this season and averaged 16.7 points on 48.4% shooting (38.6% 3-point) with 5.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.6 steals over 33.2 minutes (67 games). He's also averaging 20.7 points on 57.8% shooting (50.8% 3-point) with 6.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks over 34.6 minutes (16 games) in the playoffs.
Anunoby tallied 33 points (10-15 FG, 7-9 3-point) with four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block across 41 minutes on Wednesday. The 6-foot-7, 240-pounder and Brunson scored a combined 36 points in the second half, while the Spurs scored just 30 as a team.
