Odell Beckham Jr. is one of the most legendary wide receivers of his era.
Every football fan remembers Beckham’s glory years with the New York Giants. Well, this offseason, it seemed like Beckham was getting his storybook ending, as he returned to the Giants.
Unfortunately, Beckham’s return didn’t go as planned. The Giants saw starting quarterback Jaxson Dart go down for the season, and Beckham was unable to get on the field much through the first three weeks. As a result, the team cut the receiver this week so he can have an opportunity for more targets elsewhere.
The Carolina Panthers are a team dealing with several serious injury issues, including at receiver. If Beckham wants targets and a chance to make the playoffs, why would he not be interested in Carolina?
OBJ to Carolina Makes Sense

Mike Chiari of Bleacher Report recently identified some realistic landing spots for Beckham.
Chiari picked the Panthers as one of the top options. The Panthers are deaing with injuries in the receiver room, and they don’t have a veteran like Beckham on the team right now.
In previous years, the team has had a receiver like Adam Thielen or Hunter Renfrow, so Beckham could fill that role.
“The Panthers do not have a wide receiver outside of McMillan and Coker with more than four catches or 83 yards, so depth is a need regardless of Coker’s health status,” Chiari explained.
As Chiari mentioned, the Panthers don’t have great depth. Brycen Tremayne just had a big game, but he’s known for being a special teamer. Unless the team wants to rely on Tremayne and John Metchie III, making a move for a veteran makes sense.
“Beckham could potentially play the role that veterans such as Adam Thielen and Hunter Renfrow did for the Panthers in recent years,” Chiari said. “Carolina doesn’t have that kind of veteran receiver on the roster this season, so Beckham checks some of the boxes that are currently unaddressed.”
Beckham has not been an elite receiver in several seasons now. The veteran hasn’t made a Pro Bowl since 2016, and he hasn’t had a 1,000-yard season since 2019.
However, Beckham did have 565 yards in 2023, and he appeared to be in great shape this summer. At the very least, Beckham could come in a be a mentor and red zone target like Darren Waller has been.
