Tampa Bay Rays at Los Angeles Dodgers NRFI (-145)
Rays LHP Shane McClanahan has hit a rough patch, allowing four earned runs in each of his last two starts. His first-inning numbers have been great, though, with a 2.08 ERA in 13 starts. Dodgers RHP Shohei Ohtani has been on another planet at 6-2 with a 1.06 ERA overall. He has yet to give up a run in the first this season.
Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox YRFI (-135)
RHP Max Scherzer goes for the Jays. In six starts, he's 1-4 with an ugly 10.23 ERA. It somehow gets worse in the first inning with a 13.50 ERA. LHP Jake Bennett goes for the Red Sox. He's 1-2 with a 5.28 ERA in three starts. He hasn't allowed a run in the first yet. With the ugly numbers Mad Max is putting up and Bennett's inexperience, take the YRFI chance here.
Baltimore Orioles at Seattle Mariners NRFI (-140)
Orioles RHP Kyle Bradish's numbers won't wow you at 3-7 with a 4.30 ERA. It's his first-inning numbers that swing the pendulum toward the NRFI. Bradish has a 1.29 ERA in 14 first frames this season. On the other side is young horse George Kirby at 5-6 with a 4.07 ERA overall. He has locked it down in the first with a 2.57 ERA.
What Does NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
