Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today
Pittsburgh Pirates at Philadelphia Phillies NRFI (-135)
Pirates ace Paul Skenes sits at 6-7 with a 3.10 ERA. The numbers aren't bad, but they're certainly not to the level of dominance he has displayed thus far in his young career. His first-inning ERA is ugly, but a lot of it is due to an Opening Day start when he was blown up and didn't get out of the first. He hasn't allowed a run in the first in five of six starts. RHP Zack Wheeler continues his quest for Comeback Player of the Year at 8-1 with a 2.03 ERA. In the first, he's even better with a 1.50 ERA. This one should stay clean in the first.
San Diego Padres at Chicago Cubs NRFI (+115)
Padres RHP Walker Buehler has been great of late. He's on a six-start streak without allowing a run in the first. He has a 2.25 ERA in the first through 16 starts. For the Cubs, RHP Colin Rea is 5-5 with a 4.80 ERA. In the first, though, he's much better at a 3.46 ERA. A lot will depend on where the wind is blowing in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field, but we'll lean toward the NRFI.
San Francisco Giants at Arizona Diamondbacks YRFI (-125)
Giants RHP Trevor McDonald is 2-6 with a 4.94 ERA on the season. He's equally as "meh" in the first with a 4.50 ERA. Former Cy Young contender RHP Zac Gallen has been in a tailspin the last couple of seasons. It continues at 3-7 with a 6.15 ERA on the season. He has been even worse in the first with a 7.94 ERA. Look for the ball to fly in the desert on the way to a YRFI.
What Does NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
