NL Cy Young front-runner Jacob Misiorowski looks to dominate the Pittsburgh Pirates and cash an NRFI along the way. The NRFI looks good in the matchup featuring the Kansas City Royals and Houston Astros. It doesn’t look so good for the Baltimore Orioles and New York Mets as we’re targeting the YRFI.
Tuesday’s MLB action begins at 6:40 p.m. ET, and here are our targets for NRFI and YRFI.

Milwaukee Brewers at Pittsburgh Pirates NRFI (-150)
Brewers RHP Jacob Misiorowski takes his turn at 14-5 with a 1.95 ERA. He co-leads the majors with 236 strikeouts. He gets started with the punchouts immediately with 51 in 27 first frames and a 2.67 ERA. The Pirates counter with RHP Lake Bachar at 1-3 with a 3.52 ERA. He has allowed just two earned runs in nine first frames for a 2.00 ERA.
Kansas City Royals at Houston Astros NRFI (-115)
The Royals go with RHP Michael Wacha at 9-8 with a 3.25 ERA. He’s just as solid in the first with a 3.10 ERA and 25 K’s in 29 frames. RHP Hunter Brown takes his turn for the Astros. He’s 5-3 with a 3.52 ERA and 100 K’s in 92 IP. Good luck facing him in the first, where he has a 2.12 ERA and 20 K’s in 17 IP.
Baltimore Orioles at New York Mets YRFI (-110)
The O’s go with RHP Shane Baz at 6-15 with a 4.05 ERA. He has had some issues in the first with a 4.97 ERA and five home runs allowed — the most of any inning. LHP Sean Manaea takes the ball for the Mets at 5-7 with a 4.79 ERA. He’s not much better in the first with a 4.50 ERA.
What Do NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, there will be a run in the first inning. It doesn’t matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
