Boston Red Sox RHP Sonny Gray is having a solid season at 8-1 with a 3.12 ERA. He has been pretty consistent, and one of those consistent traits leads us to take a YRFI against the Colorado Rockies. We like the NRFI in the New York Yankees-Detroit Tigers matchup. Lastly, the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds provide a YRFI window to cash in on.

Boston Red Sox at Colorado Rockies YRFI (-140)
RHP Sonny Gray's numbers on the season look great at 8-1 with a 3.12 ERA. However, in the first inning, his ERA is at 5.54. In fact, he has allowed a run in the first in each of his last five starts. We look for that trend to continue in Coors Field. Rockies LHP Sean Sullivan makes his third career start. He's 0-1 with a 10.29 ERA. There is a lot to like about the YRFI in this one.
New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers NRFI (-125)
Yankees LHP Carlos Rodon is 3-2 with a 3.50 ERA in seven starts. He has been decent in the first with a 3.86 ERA. Former No. 1 overall pick Casey Mize goes for the Tigers. He's 2-4 on the season, but he has a solid 2.58 ERA. He has yet to give up a first-inning run in 10 starts. The numbers show us upside for an NRFI here.
Milwaukee Brewers at Cincinnati Reds YRFI (-125)
RHP Brandon Sproat goes for the Brew Crew. He's 1-4 with a 5.94 ERA in 12 starts and 14 appearances. He's on par with those sluggish numbers in the first inning with a 5.25 ERA. The Reds send LHP Nick Lodolo out for his ninth start. He's 2-2 with an inflated 6.12 ERA. He has been decent in the first with a 3.38 ERA. Things fall apart for him after that, and in the bandbox that is the Great American Ball Park, the YRFI makes sense here.
What Does NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
