Atlanta Braves RHP Bryce Elder was an All-Star in 2023 but has struggled the last couple of seasons. He has begun to revive his career this season and looks to cash an NRFI against the Pittsburgh Pirates. After that, we like the offense with some sketchy pitching matchups between the Los Angeles Angels and Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres.

Atlanta Braves at Pittsburgh Pirates NRFI (+105)
Braves RHP Bryce Elder is 5-6 with a 4.01 ERA on the season. His first-inning ERA sits at 4.24, but half of his eight earned runs came in one outing three starts ago. He has kept it clean in the two previous turns. Pirates RHP Mitch Keller is having a down year at 6-6 with a 5.02 ERA. However, he starts games off well with a 2.50 ERA. This is the lone matchup we like the NRFI in.
Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers YRFI (+120)
Angels LHP Reid Detmers is 3-6 with a 4.13 ERA. He is so-so in the first with a 4.00 ERA. He has given up five ER in two of his last three starts. On the other side, RHP Nathan Eovaldi is 9-7 with a 4.02 ERA. He has struggled in the first with a 6.35 ERA. We like the YRFI in the Texas heat.
Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres YRFI (-120)
RHP Merrill Kelly goes for the D-Backs, and he's 6-8 with a 5.71 ERA. It doesn't get better in the first inning with a 6.00 ERA. The Padres turn to RHP Griffin Canning, who is 1-6 with a 6.71 ERA. He, too, is a hot mess in the first inning with a 9.00 ERA. They could have their gloves ready at Petco Park, anticipating snagging a home run.
What Does NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
