Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski has become one of the best pitchers in baseball in short order. He hopes to provide one half of an NRFI against the Cincinnati Reds Thursday. We are going in on the YRFI in the Detroit Tigers-Texas Rangers matchup and also like the NRFI in the Los Angeles Angels at Seattle Mariners meeting.

Cincinnati Reds at Milwaukee Brewers NRFI (-180)
Reds RHP Chase Burns has emerged as the team's ace this season at 9-1 with a 2.36 ERA. He's even better in the first inning with a 1.12 ERA. Brewers RHP Jacob Misiorowski has ascended to the top of the food chain as far as starting pitchers go. He's 9-3 with a 1.45 ERA and has struck out 146 batters in 99 innings. He, too, has a 1.12 ERA in the first and has struck out 30 in 16 first frames. The NRFI is definitely the way to go here.
Los Angeles Angels at Seattle Mariners NRFI (-170)
RHP Walbert Urena has emerged at 5-6 with a 3.14 ERA at the age of 22. Good luck getting to him in the first inning as he has a 1.38 ERA. RHP Bryce Miller has been a beast, too, at 3-2 with a 1.97 ERA. He has allowed one run in seven first frames for a 1.29 ERA. We foresee a couple of zeroes in the first in this one.
Detroit Tigers at Texas Rangers YRFI (-105)
Tigers LHP Framber Valdez, a big free-agent pickup, has disappointed in the first half at 4-5 with a 4.05 ERA. He can be cracked in the first with a 5.29 ERA. Meanwhile, 36-year-old RHP Nathan Eovaldi goes for the Rangers. He's 8-7 with a 3.95 ERA on the campaign. That ERA balloons to 6.75 in the first inning. This matchup has a good chance for fireworks early.
What Does NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
