New York Yankees LHP Max Fried has quietly entered the Cy Young Award chat and looks to cash an NRFI against the Seattle Mariners. The Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers also have a good matchup for an NRFI. In the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins game, we have the Field of Dreams game taking place in Dyersville, Iowa. The YRFI has cashed in both editions of the game as hitters look to pulverize baseballs into the cornfields.

He has kept the first inning clean in his last two turns. He has also been better in day games at 5-2 with a 3.28 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP as opposed to 3-5 with a 3.57 ERA and 1.08 WHIP at night. LHP Max Fried goes for the Yanks at 4-3 with a 2.88 ERA. He has a 4.50 ERA in the first, but three of the seven ER came in one start.
Cleveland Guardians at Detroit Tigers NRFI (-135)
Young stud Parker Messick goes for the Guardians at 9-6 with a 2.57 ERA. He's money in the first with a 0.78 ERA on the season. RHP Keider Montero goes for the Tigers at 8-7 with a 3.38 ERA. He's also great in the first with a 1.89 ERA. Runs will be at a premium in this one.
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Minnesota Twins YRFI (-130)
This is the Field of Dreams game in Dyersville, Iowa, and both of these teams have the power to reach corn. The Phillies send struggling RHP Aaron Nola to the mound at 3-9 with a 5.47 ERA. He has a 4.12 ERA in the first inning. RHP Taj Bradley goes for the Twins at 9-4 with a 3.76 ERA. He has had issues in the first all season with a 6.26 ERA. Part of his trouble has been walks as he has 15 of them in 23 innings.
What Do NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, there will be a run in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
