It’s the final day of the regular season, which means pitching matchups—and really anything—can change before first pitch. As it stands, Philadelphia Phillies RHP Zack Wheeler is set to start as the Phils try to secure the third Wild Card spot over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He and the Tampa Bay Rays are destined for NRFI glory. The Cincinnati Reds and Toronto Blue Jays are poised to start the scoring early. The St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers have the makings for a YRFI despite the likely NL Cy Young winner on the mound.
Sunday’s action begins at 1:05 p.m. ET, so get rocking and rolling early.

Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today
Tampa Bay Rays at Philadelphia Phillies NRFI (-TBD)
RHP Nick Martinez makes his final tuneup start for the postseason at 15-5 with a 2.94 ERA. Thinking about scoring on him in the first? Think again as his 1.50 ERA attests. Phillies RHP Zack Wheeler is slated to take the ball at 13-5 with a 3.06 ERA. He has had some blunders to raise his first-inning ERA to 3.33, but he has kept it clean in four straight turns.
Cincinnati Reds at Toronto Blue Jays YRFI (-TBD)
The Reds roll with LHP Brandon Williamson at 5-4 with a 4.89 ERA. His fortunes are worse in the first with a 5.62 ERA. Future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer is slated to make what could be his last start ever at 3-9 with a 6.14 ERA. He has had a world of trouble in the first this season with a 9.00 ERA.
St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers YRFI (-TBD)
Cards RHP Andre Pallante has had his best season as a pro at 12-8 with a 3.61 ERA. It would have been a lot better if not for his 5.46 ERA in the first inning. Brewers ace RHP Jacob Misiorowski is scheduled, but with nothing to play for, they could go with a bullpen game. If “The Miz” does go, his last start against St. Louis saw two runs come onto the board in the first.
What Do NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, there will be a run in the first inning. It doesn’t matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
