Braves RHP Bryce Elder is having a breakout season at 5-3 with a 2.66 ERA. He has been just as good in the first inning with a 2.57 ERA. Conversely, Mets RHP Freddy Peralta is having a down year at 4-5 with a 4.04 ERA. However, he has been superb in the first with a 1.93 ERA. The NRFI cashed Saturday, and we like it again Sunday.
St. Louis Cardinals at Minnesota Twins YRFI (-115)
This bet has cashed in both games this weekend. We like it again Sunday. RHP Michael McGreevy takes the mound for STL in a weekend that has seen the ball fly out of the park. McGreevy has a 1.38 ERA in the first inning this season, but he allowed two homers in his last start and pitches to contact. Meanwhile, Twins RHP Taj Bradley is the poster child for YRFI bets. He has allowed 11 earned runs, 12 hits and 10 walks in 12 first frames. This looks prime for another cash Sunday.
Detroit Tigers at Cleveland Guardians NRFI (-145)
Tigers RHP Casey Mize toes the rubber Sunday at 2-3 with a 2.27 ERA. In nine starts, he has yet to allow an earned run in the first inning. Guardians ace Gavin Williams' first-inning ERA sits at 4.50. He gave up a couple runs during the first in his last go-around, but he wasn't scored upon in the first in five starts before that.
What Does NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
