Philadelphia Phillies at Detroit Tigers NRFI (-135)
Phillies All-Star LHP Cristopher Sanchez was drilled for nine runs in his last start, and six of them came in the first. He's still 10-4 with a 2.62 ERA in a great first half. Those six runs ballooned his first-inning ERA to 6.63, but he was mostly good beforehand. For the Tigers, RHP Casey Mize has also been dealing in the first half at 4-5 with a 2.64 ERA. He has yet to allow a first-inning run in 13 starts. We like the NRFI here.
Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants YRFI (-105)
The Rockies send LHP Kyle Freeland to the hill at 2-7 with a 7.46 ERA. His first-inning ERA is even worse at 7.88. The Giants send RHP Tyler Mahle, who is 1-8 with a 5.70 ERA. He gets blasted in the first, too, with a 6.43 ERA. We look for someone to fold in the first on the way to a YRFI cash.
Seattle Mariners at Tampa Bay Rays NRFI (-120)
Mariners RHP Logan Gilbert goes Saturday, and he's 7-5 with a 3.19 ERA. He has a 5.00 ERA in the first, but he hasn't been scored upon in the opening inning in three starts. The Rays send RHP Griffin Jax to the mound at 4-6 with a 3.60 ERA. He has been even better in the first with a 2.77 ERA and 15 K's in 13 starts.
What Does NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
