NRFI, YRFI MLB Bets Today: Best First-Inning Predictions for Monday, Sept. 7

Dylan Cease

Toronto Blue Jays ace Dylan Cease is 3-0 with a 2.10 ERA in the last month as he tries to catch New York Yankees RHP Cam Schlittler in the AL Cy Young race. He looks to help cash an NRFI against the Athletics. The Cleveland Guardians and Baltimore Orioles have the arms to keep the first inning scoreless as well. St. Louis Cardinals’ young pitching staff is tiring and has become vulnerable lately as we look to cash a YRFI between them and the San Francisco Giants.

Monday’s MLB action begins at 1:05 p.m. ET, so take note of when your target game starts.

Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today

Toronto Blue Jays at Athletics NRFI (-145)

Jays ace Dylan Cease is 10-5 with a 2.25 ERA and sits second-best in the AL with 221 K’s. Hitters don’t have much of a chance in the first against him as he has a 2.42 ERA and 36 K’s in 26 IP. A’s LHP Jacob Lopez is 6-4 with a 4.71 ERA. He’s great in the first, though, with a 2.70 ERA, a .129 opposing batting average and 22 K’s in 20 frames.

Cleveland Guardians at Baltimore Orioles NRFI (-120)

Guardians LHP Joey Cantillo has had a fine year at 9-8 with a 3.81 ERA. His numbers are even better in the first with a 3.10 ERA and 38 K’s in 29 first frames. LHP Trevor Rogers goes for the O’s at 9-9 with a 4.30 ERA. He has been downright awesome in the first all year with a 1.04 ERA and a .169 opposing batting average.

St. Louis Cardinals at San Francisco Giants YRFI (+100)

Cards RHP Michael McGreevy has had a good year, but he has hit a wall late in the season. After having an ERA in the twos and low threes much of the season, a 5.67 ERA the last 30 days has ballooned it up to 3.97. His first-inning ERA has increased to 3.67 during this rough patch. Giants RHP Logan Webb takes the ball at 8-8 with a 4.21 ERA. He’s hit-or-miss in the first with a 4.35 ERA. Lately, he has been awful with a 6.57 ERA over the last month.

What Do NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?

The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, there will be a run in the first inning. It doesn’t matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
