New York Yankees at Cleveland Guardians NRFI (-145)
The Yanks are projected to throw RHP Will Warren, who is 7-1 with a 3.22 ERA on the season. He has been even better to open the game with a 1.50 ERA in the first. Guardians ace RHP Gavin Williams goes for Cleveland. He's 9-3 with a 3.20 ERA on the year and makes his second consecutive start against the Yanks. They got him for three runs in 5 1/3 innings last time out, but he kept it clean in the first. He has done so in five straight starts.
Philadelphia Phillies at Toronto Blue Jays NRFI (-130)
Phillies LHP Cristopher Sanchez leads baseball with a 1.46 ERA, and he makes the start Monday in a battle of southpaws against Blue Jays LHP Patrick Corbin. Sanchez has allowed just three ER in 13 first frames this season. Corbin has been a little spotty at 2-2 with a 3.98 ERA overall and a 4.09 first-inning ERA. He hasn't been scored on in the first inning in his last three starts.
Washington Nationals at San Francisco Giants YRFI (+100)
The Nats go with RHP Miles Mikolas, who is 1-5 with a 6.39 ERA. He has surprisingly been good in the first, unscored upon in 6 1/3 innings in the first, but the underlying numbers show that probably won't hold for long. On the other side is RHP Logan Webb, who is also having a down year at 3-4 with a 4.25 ERA. The Giants put up 12 and 18 runs Thursday and Friday, and this pitching matchup looks like another slugfest is in order.
What Does NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
