No. 6 North Carolina suffered an upset loss to No. 11 VCU on Thursday night that was so embarrassing fans are calling for Hubert Davis to be fired.
The Tar Heels jumped out to a 19-point lead over the Rams, but they simply couldn't get out of their own way in the late stages of the second half. They gave up a 23-8 run at the end of regulation and failed to make a single shot in overtime.
We also can't ignore the fact that Terrence Hill Jr. made life miserable for North Carolina, scoring 34 points on 13-of-20 shooting from the field. He was undoubtedly the MVP for VCU.
While there's no question VCU deserves credit for the win, most of the college basketball world is too busy speculating about Davis' future in Chapel Hill. Most fans believe he should be fired as early as this Friday.

"Gotta fire Hubert Davis for the collapse," Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports said.
"If Tar Heel fans can still say that keeping Hubert Davis is acceptable, I just don't know what to say," a North Carolina fan wrote on social media. "This was beyond embarrassing. Something must be done. Don't believe they will FIRE him, he will have to leave on his own. If he loves this school like I firmly believe he does, it's time."
"Fire Hubert Davis TONIGHT," another fan declared.
"Hubert Davis couldn’t coach a rec league middle school team out of a paper bag. zero adjustments, zero personality. Just stands there while Carolina chokes another season. Fire this fraud already," a social media user commented.
What did Hubert Davis have to say after the loss?
Despite all the outrage coming from North Carolina's fan base, Davis was levelheaded during his postgame press conference.
"We had open looks. We had shots at the basket. We had executed plays. And we miss eight free throws. Sometimes the ball doesn’t go in," Davis said, via Inside Carolina. "Also, you really want to compliment VCU, their resiliency in down 19 to keep trying to find a way. I also felt like just the small details. In order for a team to come back, they have to be good enough and resilient enough to do that, and VCU was. But also believe that there were mistakes made that helped them come back. At times we’ve done that all year."
Davis certainly deserves credit for taking the Tar Heels to the national title game in 2022, but the past two seasons have ended in disappointing fashion for him.
