The Texas Tech Raiders have spent the past few months establishing themselves as one of college football’s fastest-rising recruiting powers, stacking elite prospects while fending off some of the sport’s biggest brands.
Texas Tech earned the No. 18 recruiting class in 2026, and the Red Raiders are moving up the ranks in the 2027 ranks, currently boasting the No. 9 class in the 247Sports’ Composite Ranks.
That success has led to more attention around the Red Raiders’ highest-profile commitments, especially with several national programs still pursuing top-ranked recruits deep into the recruiting cycle.
One player at the center of that speculation has been Texas Tech defensive tackle commit Jalen Brewster, whose recruitment has remained a major talking point since he decided to join Joey McGuire’s program on Oct. 2025.

Now, amid growing speculation of a potential flip, Brewster has made it clear he considers his recruiting process finished.
Speaking to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, the five-star defensive tackle and No. 1 overall prospect in the 2027 class announced Wednesday that he is reaffirming his commitment to Texas Tech and shutting down his recruitment.
“I feel like Texas Tech is the best place for me and the best place to build my own legacy,” Brewster said.
ESPN’s Eli Lederman, meanwhile, reported that Brewster’s decision follows “months of speculation,” during which the highly-ranked defensive lineman took official visits to Florida, LSU, Indiana, SMU, Texas and Texas Tech.
Brewster originally chose the Red Raiders nearly a year ago over finalists including Ohio State, Texas A&M, Oregon, Oklahoma and Indiana. He headlines a 2027 Raiders recruiting class that includes fellow five-star recruit Anthony Sweeney.
Brewster recently transferred to Buford High School in Georgia, and his announcement effectively ends one of the nation’s most closely watched recruitment battles while giving the Red Raiders another significant victory on the 2027 recruiting trail.
