The NFL has suspended two veteran officials following Week 4.
The league announced on Monday, October 5 that two officials, who worked the Giants vs. Cardinals and Vikings vs. Dolphins games, respectively, have been suspended for their behavior on the field.
The NFL announced that line judge Jeff Seeman would be suspended for one game. Seeman was caught appearing to curse at Cardinals tight end Trey McBride on Sunday. McBride had allegedly complained about his calls, telling the official that he was “ruining” the game.
The league also announced that referee Adrian Hill was being suspended for one game. Hill got into the face of a Vikings player who had made accidental contact with him.
“The NFL confirmed today that line judge Jeff Seeman has been suspended for two games and referee Adrian Hill has been suspended for one game, each for an instance of unprofessional conduct toward a player in Sunday’s Arizona-New York Giants (Seeman) and Miami-Minnesota games (Hill). The suspensions were issued by NFL Vice President of Officiating Ramon George,” Ian Rapoport shared.
The suspensions come as many in the league were calling for the officials to be disciplined for their behavior.
JC Tretter, the Executive Director of the NFLPA, called out the behavior of the officials on Sunday evening.
He wrote on X: “This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable. Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard.”
The NFL has acted quickly and swiftly in this case, which the league should be applauded for. The two veteran officials deserved to be punished and they’ll be suspended for one game each as a result.
The league’s Week 4 slate wraps up with Saints vs. Falcons on Monday Night Football tonight.
