The NFL is getting warned by former players after an ex-cornerback was found dead at 40.
Former NFL cornerback Alphonso Smith Jr. was found dead this week. The former defensive back allegedly died by suicide, according to a report by TMZ Sports.
“Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ Sports … the former cornerback died by suicide on Wednesday at a housing community in Florida,” TMZ Sports reported.
“Alphonso’s final Facebook post highlighted his unstable emotional state before his death.”
Smith posted a tragic message before his final hours.
“Do not cry for me! I tried everything in my power to fight the demons behind the ones that someone put into ME! I did not want to be that WAY! I know I have disappointed so many folks. This is a DEMON in me! But not only me! It’s EVERYONE! I have HURT so many! I needed help & did not get it!”

Following his death, former NFL star Asante Samuel called out the league.

Samuel hit the NFL with a clear warning.
“NFL needs to start taking players serious when we reach out. Stop thinking this is a joke. Rip brother,” he shared on X.
Smith played in the league from 2009-12, after being an All-American at Wake Forest.
