Even NFL players are beginning to get fed up with the apparent “preferential treatment” given to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs topped the Dolphins, 24-10, in Week 3 on Sunday afternoon. However, while Kansas City got the win, a controversial, very suspect “roughing the passer” penalty was given to the Dolphins on Sunday afternoon.
NFL players, from ones on the field to ones off of it, were fed up with the call, taking to social media to complain.
“In what world is this roughing the passer? Does not hit to the head or neck area, and makes the best attempt to not land on him with his full body weight. Mahomes and the Chiefs draw the penalty…” Rate the Refs shared.
Dolphins players were fed up with the penalty, but they’re not the only ones bothered by it.
“Dolphins should have known you’re not allowed to hit Mahomes that hard. It’s literally in the rules,” one fan wrote.
Former NFL star Richard Sherman added: “Not sure what else the defender can do to avoid the Roughing call other than not trying to make the play.”
Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III shared, too: “Dear Football Fans, this is a safe space. Do you think this is roughing the passer?”
NFL fans fed up with blown call on Sunday
NFL defenders are not supposed to drive quarterbacks into the ground. However, the Dolphins player clearly let him before Mahomes hit the ground. He hit Mahomes before he released the football, too.
What exactly is he supposed to do, here? Hit him softer?
“It’s a soft league. It shouldn’t be RTP, but according to the rules, it absolutely is. The rule states you cannot drive a quarterback into the ground, with all or most of your body weight.
2000, no. 2026, yes,” one fan argued.
“Football is hard to watch anymore. Not even fun in person these days. Hell its not even the same game it used to be,” one fan added.
“This is why nobody respects Mahomes or the Chiefs…outside of their fans,” one fan added.
The Chiefs improved to 3-0 on the year with the victory over the Dolphins, who dropped to 0-3 on the year with the loss.
