With the 2026 NFL season a little over a month away, Jonathan Jones announced that he's leaving CBS Sports.
Jones joined CBS Sports in 2019 and quickly became the network's lead insider for NFL news. In addition to providing in-depth reporting, he made regular appearances on CBS Sports HQ and other shows.
On Thursday morning, Jones confirmed that he's ready for the next chapter of his career.
"After nearly 7 years, I will be moving on from CBS Sports. I'm so thankful for everyone there who poured into me. HQ is the best at what they do, and there are so many talented people there. I will forever be honored to be part of 2 great pregame shows in TOPS and The NFL Today," Jones wrote on social media. "More to come soon, but for now... I appreciate the opportunity to learn along the way, and I'm indebted to all those at CBS who believed in me and helped make me better."

What's next for Jonathan Jones?
Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports reported earlier this month that Jones is in advanced talks to join The Athletic.
"While Jones has been CBS’s lead NFL insider, he would have a different role if he joins The Athletic, one source said," Glasspiegel wrote. "His video and written NFL content would involve features reporting and behind-the-scenes coverage."
The Athletic has not yet announced a deal with Jones, but he would be a great fit for them now that Dianna Russini is out of the picture.
Suffice to say, it won't be long before Jones is back to covering the top stories in the NFL.
