The San Francisco 49ers are already dealing with injuries before the 2026 season even begins.
Third-year wideout Ricky Pearsall was held out of practice on Wednesday due to swelling in his knee. It turns out he's still compromised from the PCL injury he suffered during the 2025 regular season.
According to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, there's some "concern" about Pearsall's injury. The 49ers have said that "all options" are being explored at this time.

After hearing this update on Pearsall, 49ers fans are convinced his career could already be in serious jeopardy.
"I had such high hopes for this guy coming into the league," one fan commented. "It might be over at this point."
"I was hoping so badly that this kid was finally going to showcase what he could do, but we simply can’t rely on him to stay healthy," a second fan wrote. "It’s really a bummer."
"Sad, but this guys never gonna be healthy," another fan said.

Prior to his first season with the 49ers, Pearsall was shot during an armed robbery attempt in San Francisco. He returned to the field and had 400 receiving yards and three touchdowns as a rookie.
It seemed like Pearsall was destined for a breakout 2025 season, especially after he had 108 yards in the opener against the Seattle Seahawks. However, injuries prevented him from reaching his full potential.
Barring a miraculous recovery, Pearsall will have to deal with the injury bug this fall as well.
