It’s hard to deny that Deshaun Watson was the better quarterback between him and Shedeur Sanders in the Cleveland Browns’ first preseason game last week. But as they head into their second exhibition against the Buffalo Bills tomorrow, some believe that Watson won the job outright today.
During practice today, Watson had arguably the best completion of the Browns’ offseason when he found wide receiver KC Concepcion over the middle. It was a downright impressive play and one that would have been good for about 35 yards in a real game.
“#Browns Deshaun Watson with a dart down the middle of the field to KC Concepcion,” Justin Cooper wrote on X.
Victory for Watson
Fans on X quickly realized that it was the best pass they’d seen this offseason and asserted that the QB controversy between Watson and Sanders might be settled now:
“yeahhhhh this thing might be over lol,” one user on X declared.
“Yeah Deshaun Watson is starting week 1. Hasn’t really been a competition since the first week when Watson was struggling,” wrote another.
“I have a lot of hate for Deshaun Watson but this is one of his better throws in general since getting to Cleveland,” a third remarked.
“Sheduer aint making that play it would intercepted for sure.”
“It’s over. Stop wasting time with Shedeur just give 4 all the reps.”

Watson has barely played over the past several seasons due to injury and is now heading into his 10th NFL season. Nobody’s been able to deny that he could throw the ball well in his prime, but for a while his prime seemed like it was a distant memory.
Has Watson regained the form he’ll need to compete at the highest level?
