Tom Brady's foray into flag football this past week may have been more than just a cash grab. It seems that it's a deeper sign that he still longs to play in the NFL.
In a recent interview with CNBC's Alex Sherman, Brady admitted that he has "inquired" with the NFL about being able to return as a player while also serving as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. But the brief response that the NFL allegedly gave him is that they'd prefer he didn't do that.
“I actually have inquired, and they don't like that idea very much. We explored a lot of different things, and I’m very happily retired," Brady said.
Fan Response
As you might imagine, NFL fans were pretty unamused to see Brady once again trying to get back into the league:
"Someone remove this man from my TL for once & for all," one fan wrote on X.
"Every single football he touches really talks to him like a green goblin mask lmaoo," another joked.
"I hate this guy," a third said bluntly.
"The NFL’s refusal isn't just about 'fairness' it’s a massive salary cap and conflict-of-interest nightmare. How do you negotiate a player contract with yourself while holding 5% equity? The league is protecting the integrity of the cap here, and they’re right to do it."
"He just can’t help himself lol."

Only two noteworthy men in NFL history have been both a player and an owner at the same time: Curly Lambeau and George Halas. But those men played a literal century ago and both the game of football and the law have changed substantially in a way that would make it a lot harder for Brady to play again.
Suffice it to say, unless Brady sells his stake in the Raiders, it's pretty much not going to happen.
