A longtime NFL announcer is out of a job ahead of the 2026 regular season.
Greg Papa, the longtime radio voice of the San Francisco 49ers, has lost his daily radio show, after being laid off - or, in Ryan Clark's words, "fired" - by KNPR on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a report by Alex Simon in SFGATE, KNBR will let go of Papa and his co-host Greg Silver. The midday show will be replaced by John Lund, a longtime veteran of Bay Area sports talk radio. He will be doing a show called "Fair and Biased with John Lund" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. PT.
Papa, who has been the voice of the San Francisco 49ers radio broadcasts for several years, has a separate contract with the team. However, he has said that, given his recovery from leukemia, it would be far easier for him to return to daily radio than NFL broadcasting responsibilities.
NFL fans bothered by the ousting on Wednesday
"KNBR is going down hill. They will lose the Giants to 95.7 once the contract goes up," one fan wrote.
"WTF letting go of Papa right now," one fan added.
"Seriously!! No way," one added.
"While he’s fighting for his life. Serves as a reminder to always do what’s best for you and your family. Being a company man is for suckers," one fan added.
"KNBR was already in the mud and they let go of greg papa they deserve to go under," one fan added.
"Can say with 100% certainty I’ll never listen to KNBR and will advise anyone I know to do the same unless they confirm they’ll be taking care of Greg’s financial needs during his fight with cancer," one fan added.
The news has sparked a lot of outrage, that's for sure.
