A year ago the Tennessee Titans made QB Cam Ward the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft and immediately named him the starter. Yet through 20 games, he’s now 3-17 as a starter.
His latest loss game against the New York Giants, who couldn’t even manage a touchdown in the yucky weather of East Rutherford, New Jersey. Ward, meanwhile, started the game by leading the Titans to five straight three and outs with their longest play behind just 10 yards at halftime as they trailed 9-0.
With just under 6 minutes to play, Ward finally got the Titans into the endzone and cut the lead to 12-7. And with less than a minute in regular he was able to get them all the way into the redzone with two timeouts.
Then he threw an interception – his first of the season – to Giants defender Jevon Holland and ended the game.
Losing Patience
Titans fans were already nearing their last nerve with Ward, who has never even come close to throwing for 300 yards in a game and had just one touchdown pass in the first two combined. Even the argument that he does a great job of protecting the ball fell flat in the ending to that game.
Now, the fans are all but calling for Ward’s head:
“What a Terrible decision and interception by Cam Ward. You got 2 timeouts and could have gained atleast 4 or 5 yards on that play just running it. Titans LOSE again,” one fan wrote on X.
“I don’t want to grow with Cam Ward. I hate the Cam Ward experience as much as I hate his fans. Probably going to bail on the Titans for the foreseeable future. This is third-world football for low-IQ people. Too much respect for myself,” wrote another.
“The Titans have to start thinking about replacing Cam Ward after this season, right?” a third asked.
Unfortunately for Titans fans, head coach Robert Saleh has already indicated that there are no plans to bench Ward now or in the foreseeable future.
Barring injury, Ward will be under center for next Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.
There’s a very real possibility that the Titans are heading into a 1-16 season.
