NFL fans who woke up early to watch Sunday morning’s London game between the Washington Commanders and Indianapolis Colts were not very pleased by the national anthem performance.
An R&B singer, Levi, performed the “Star Spangled Banner” on Sunday. Fans, though, took issue with his performance. While Levi is a talented singer, fans took issue with how he performed the song.
The Mirror US reported that the singer “held on to the note of much of the song in an irregular performance of the national anthem, as many took to social media to complain.”
NFL fans quickly took to social media to weigh in on the performance.
Fans had problems with the national anthem showing
NFL fans on social media had problems with the performance.
“Awful. just can’t. sing as written or not at all. I see Roger still has JayZ in charge,” one fan wrote.
“People don’t want all the runs, riffs and fancy voice acrobats. They just want the Star Spangled Banner,” one fan added.
“This was the worst rendition i’ve ever heard from someone who can sing,” another fan wrote.
“No, just sing the anthem. Omg it always sounds tortured when sung like that or get Mimi (Mariah) to sing it,” one fan added.
“Seems like a talented kid..but man that was rough,” one fan added.
“That was by far the WORST rendition of our National Anthem I have ever heard. Whoever that was singing, should be ashamed,” one fan added.
“Horrible rendition, just sing the song, don’t turn it into an American Idol audition,” one fan added.
It’s always tough to perform a national anthem in front of tens of thousands of fans, and everyone has their own preferences, but it’s clear that many NFL fans were not happy with how the song was sung on Sunday morning.
