In case it wasn’t already clear, MVP has become a quarterback award for the NFL.
A non-quarterback hasn’t won MVP since Adrian Peterson captured the award for his incredible 2012 season with the Vikings. He led Minnesota to the playoffs that year by rushing for 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Even though Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker III is on pace to have a historic season, he’s not receiving enough recognition in the MVP conversation. In fact, he’s not even in the top five for best odds.
As of this Thursday, oddsmakers have Josh Allen and Brock Purdy as the clear favorites to win MVP this season. Despite the fact that Walker is driving the bus for Kansas City’s offense with 665 rushing yards and six touchdowns in five games, Patrick Mahomes has better odds at this moment.
Although it’s hard to imagine the voting trend for MVP will change, NFL fans have voiced their displeasure with the betting odds.

“Abolish the MVP Award Now. Just make it Best QB of the Year. The fact that Kenneth Walker and JSN aren’t here is a crime,” a Seahawks fan declared.
“The MVP has been a joke in the NFL and NBA for decades. It’s insane that Walker isn’t leading the odds,” a fan commented.
“If Saquon didn’t win it 2 years ago no one but QBs will ever win it again,” another fan wrote.
“No Kenneth Walker is a joke,” a Chiefs content creator replied.
Could this be the week that K9 rises up the rankings?
Walker and the Chiefs will face the Seahawks this Sunday night on national television. It’ll technically go down as a “revenge game” for Walker, who didn’t receive a fair contract offer from Seattle this past offseason.
“I know it’s going to be a special moment for him to get back to the place where you kind of built your career, and won a Super Bowl,” Mahomes told reporters, via NFL.com. “Those fans were the people around him for all that. A lot of those people were teammates he grew up with as well in the NFL. It will be a special moment for him.
If Walker powers the Chiefs to a win over his former team, that could help his MVP case.
