ESPN is going with a different look for “Monday Night Countdown” this year.
The NFL pregame show, hosted by Scott Van Pelt, is featuring a lot more of Pat McAfee. The “College GameDay” star has been added to ESPN’s NFL coverage this year, in anticipation of the network hosting its first Super Bowl in February.
Stephen A. Smith will also make regular appearances on the show. Smith was part of the program on Monday night, ahead of kickoff between the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants.
Jason Kelce remains a focal point of the show, as well.
NFL fans, though, are not the biggest supporters of the cast. In fact, many are finding the show “unwatchable” this year.
NFL fans appear to fed up with ESPN shoving as much Stephen A. Smith and Pat McAfee content as possible down our collective throat.
“It was absolute overkill when McAfee went double duty joining Countdown. Now SAS for absolutely no credible reason . As a Giant fan, I’m heading to WFAN to Giant pregame . And btw, I don’t live in New York and thank goodness I have options,” one fan wrote.
“Unwatchable. Could only sustain about 20 seconds, will come back for kickoff,” one fan added.
“Don’t watch Monday Night Countdown or whatever this is called, and do something else with your life. I don’t hate them, but I also don’t waste my life hate-watching them. Weird, lol,” one fan added.
“I thought ESPN said no more loudmouth gas bag Stephen A Smith on Monday night Countdown. Good thing I am not watching this pile of garbage. Get both Stephen A Smith and Pat McAfee off Monday night Countdown now,” one fan added.
Smith and McAfee clearly bring in a lot of viewers, but do you need that when the National Football League is your product?
NFL fans would suggest that ESPN does not need to be doing this.
Of course, the Worldwide Leader in Sports is not going to apologize for prioritizing McAfee and Smith in its content moving forward.
