It’s Week 1 of the 2026 NFL regular season, so of course fans are flocking to social media to accuse the refs of “rigging” multiple games.
It wouldn’t be an NFL Sunday if there weren’t fans taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, to accuse the refs of intentionally fixing two games throughout the day, based on their penalty calls.
NFL fans always seem to think that refs are out to get their favorite team. That’s not really the case in reality, of course. However, it’s not stopping NFL fans from accusing two referee crews of “rigging” the games.

NFL referees have been ripped apart on social media, with fan bases accusing them of “rigging” two games on Sunday:
- Eagles vs. Commanders
- Vikings vs. Packers
NFL fans bothered by calls in Philadelphia on Sunday
NFL fans believe that the refs are giving preferential treatment to the Eagles against the Commanders on Sunday.
“🚨🚨INSANE🚨🚨 Many #NFL fans are saying this game is RIGGED after there was no flags on this play. Lots of contact here… what do you notice?” ML Football shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday.
Fans across the league were bothered.
“The Eagles are the NFL’s darlings, so not surprised,” one fan added.
Packers vs. Vikings sparks outrage, too
Green Bay Packers fans think that the refs are “rigging” the game for the Vikings on Sunday.
“Two 3rd down conversions thanks to penalties. RIGGED. The check cleared and the Refs are bailing out the Vikings,” one fan wrote.
“THIS IS THE MOST RIGGED DRIVE IN NFL HISTORY! WHAT IS THIS (EXPLETIVE)????????” one Packers fan added.
“3 (terrible) calls on the SAME DRIVE to will the Vikings to a touchdown and a lead against the packers. Literally ALL 3 calls were (expletive), even the announcers were scratching their heads. This (expletive) is rigged. Was there some sort of money riding on this score?” one fan added.
Both games are going down to the wire.
Unsurprisingly, NFL fans on losing sides will find a way to blame the refs.
