The Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants delivered a tense Week 4 finish, but a confrontation between Trey McBride and an NFL official carried into this week.
The disagreement erupted late in the fourth quarter, when the Cardinals tight end pleaded his case for a pass-interference call that never came. With less than five minutes left and Arizona facing third-and-2, McBride believed cornerback Dru Phillips had draped over him before Jacoby Brissett’s pass arrived, interference that would have extended the drive.
No flag came, and the crew moved on, leaving the tight end to argue his case to the nearest official. Television cameras caught line judge Jeff Seeman cursing at McBride with what appeared to be an expletive.
CBS Sports’ Aditi Kinkhabwala witnessed the incident and shared her thoughts on X shortly after. “What’s wild is that it all started with Trey McBride saying ‘please’ when pleading his case for a PI flag,” Kinkhabwala wrote. “He was heated for sure, but I never heard a curse from him. The harshest he got was, ‘You’re ruining the game.'”
NFLPA executive director JC Tretter also weighed in that day, calling on the league to hold its officials accountable. Arizona punted on the next possession, and the Giants escaped with a 36-24 win after cornerback Deonte Banks returned a Brissett interception for a touchdown as time expired.
Now, the NFL has ruled on the incident. NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported Monday that the league suspended Seeman for two games and referee Adrian Hill for one game, each disciplined for unprofessional conduct toward a player.
Seeman was suspended for the McBride exchange in Arizona’s loss to New York, and Hill for a separate incident in the Miami-Minnesota game. NFL officiating VP Ramon George issued both suspensions.
The Cardinals will look to move past their Week 4 defeat when they host the Detroit Lions at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Sunday, Oct. 11, in Week 5 of the 2026 NFL season.
