The NFL has finally dropped the hammer on San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York.
Prior to Week 1 of the NFL season, York was arrested in Ohio on suspicion of engaging in prostitution. According to court records, the 49ers owner allegedly “arranged to have sexual activity” with a female in exchange for $140. The East Palestine Police Department said he was detained at the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community at 9:35 a.m. local time.
On Friday, the NFL announced that York has been suspended for six regular-season games and fined $500,000.
The first three games of the 2026 season will count towards York’s suspension, per the NFL.
“During the time the league’s investigation has been proceeding, York has stayed away from the 49ers first three regular-season games, as well as from NFL league meetings,” the league said in its statement. “Those three missed games are counted toward his suspension, and he may return on Tuesday, Oct. 20.”

What do the 49ers think about York?
Before this punishment was announced, 49ers star Fred Warner shared his thoughts on York’s situation.
“I mean, we’re all aware, right? I think we all have social media, so we see things,” Warner replied, via California Post’s Evan Webeck. “But at the same time, you know, I got a lot of love, a lot of respect for Jed, and don’t feel the need to comment on the situation. I think the team is kind of the same way. Like, it really wasn’t a conversation being had in the locker room.”
Clearly, York’s arrest hasn’t affected the 49ers on the field. They’re entering this Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos with a 3-0 record.
