The NFL has announced its punishment for San Francisco 49ers principal owner Jed York following its investigation into his conduct.
York has been suspended for six regular-season games and fined $500,000 for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy, the league announced Friday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the decision on X.
“San Francisco 49ers principal owner Jed York has been suspended for six regular-season games and fined $500,000 for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy,” Schefter wrote.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added that York has already missed the 49ers’ first three games while the league conducted its investigation. Those three games will count toward his six-game suspension. York can return to team activities on Oct. 20.
The punishment follows York’s August arrest in East Palestine, Ohio. He later pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.
York initially faced a prostitution charge, but prosecutors amended that charge to disorderly conduct. He received credit for one day served and was fined $1,150 in the criminal case.
The NFL then conducted its own review under the Personal Conduct Policy. Commissioner Roger Goodell had previously confirmed that York’s situation was being reviewed by the league.

York has accepted the NFL’s punishment and apologized to his family, the 49ers organization and the team’s fans.
“Today, the NFL concluded its review, and I accept its decision in full,” York said in his statement. He also called his actions an “inexcusable mistake” and said he takes full responsibility.
The 49ers will therefore continue the season without their principal owner participating in team activities until York becomes eligible to return.
The NFL’s decision now closes its disciplinary review while York serves the remaining three games of his suspension.
