The NFL and NFL Players Association are jointly reviewing the handling of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts’ blood clot diagnosis.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared the joint statement Sunday: “The NFL and NFL Players Association are working together to review the matter.”
The announcement follows the NFLPA’s call for a deeper review. The union said it wanted the facts established before conclusions were drawn about the care Hurts received. The league previously said it welcomed a review and defended the medical process.
Hurts was placed on injured reserve after doctors discovered blood clots affecting his left calf and lungs. He is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 season while receiving treatment. The Eagles and his agent have said his prognosis is very good and that they expect him to make a full recovery.
The situation has raised questions about the timeline of Hurts’ diagnosis and his medical clearance to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on October 11. Hurts had initially been diagnosed with a superficial vein clot in his left calf before further evaluation identified more serious complications.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said earlier this week that the league’s medical protocols had been followed. The joint review gives the league and players’ union an opportunity to examine the circumstances surrounding the case together. No findings or conclusions have been announced.

For Philadelphia, Hurts’ health remains the priority as the team prepares to move forward without its starting quarterback. His absence also creates a challenge for the offense.
The review is a key development in a case that has drawn attention across the league. The NFL and NFLPA have not provided a timetable for their work or indicated when additional details might become public. Until more information is released, questions about the handling of the diagnosis remain unresolved.
