After losing Satou Sabally for the rest of the season, the New York Liberty made two roster moves as they prepare for the WNBA playoffs.
The Liberty announced on Thursday that Sabally will miss the remainder of the campaign due to her head injury. The three-time All-Star last played for New York on June 23 against the Las Vegas Aces, during which she suffered a concussion.
Sabally averaged 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 13 games with the Liberty, so her absence is certainly a huge blow to a New York team that was hoping she could come back in time for the playoffs.

Following Sabally’s season-ending news, the Liberty decided to convert forward Anneli Maley to a standard WNBA contract. She was previously under a player development deal.
With the move, Maley is now eligible to play for the team in the postseason.
In seven games with the Liberty this campaign, Maley averaged just 0.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.7 steals in 9.1 minutes. However, it’s worth noting that Maley put up 15.6 points and 14.4 rebounds per game during the 2025-26 season while playing for the Perth Lynx in Australia’s WNBL.
Because the Liberty opened up a player development roster spot, they also quickly filled it by signing 24-year-old forward Madison Scott.
Scott was drafted by the Dallas Wings in the second round of the 2025 WNBA Draft. She was waived before the season started but eventually found an opportunity with the Washington Mystics. She appeared in nine games for Washington, averaging 1.6 points in 5.2 minutes per game.
With the player development contract, Scott will be available to play for the Liberty in their final four games of the season. However, she is not eligible to suit up in the playoffs unless the team converts her contract.
