New York Jets Report Card Reflects An 'Incomplete' For Its 157-Yard Offense

Hopes were high among New York Jets fans coming into their game against the Chicago Bears. The Jets had played two NFC North teams tough, and seemed like they were due for an upset win.

Unfortunately, the Bears had other plans. Head coach and offensive guru Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Dennis Allen saw what the Jets did against Detroit in Week 3 and expertly countered every move.

New York was thoroughly outplayed by the Bears, who dominated in time of possession, first downs, rushing yards and total yards. The Jets had the ball for a scant 17:15 to Chicago’s 42:45, and were held to 157 total yards to the Bears’ 492.

THE REPORT CARD:

MINKAH FITZPATRICK: (A) He returned from a groin injury with a bang, grabbing the Jets’ first interception in 20 games. He had 16 tackles to go with the pick.

GENO SMITH: (B-) Looked out of joint for most of the game, a product of the Bears coverage at times. He missed one throw that would have likely meant a touchdown to Garrett Wilson.

THE OFFENSIVE LINE: (C-) Gave up three sacks, which is better than last week. But they didn’t give Geno Smith any real extra time, and 157 yards of offense is…well, offensive.

THE JETS DEFENSE: (C-) They hardly came off the field, as the Bears rolled up a huge amount of offense. Every time the Jets needed a key stop, they didn’t get it. Kyle Monangai channeled Walter Payton as he rolled in the fourth quarter.

FRANK REICH: (D) The Jets offense did nothing in its limited time with the football. The Bears obviously studied Detroit’s mistakes and vowed not to repeat them. Kenyon Sadiq was invisible, and Garrett Wilson was covered tighter than a barrel of industrial waste.

AARON GLENN: (D) His defense played well in the first half and kept the Jets in the game. Things went downhill after that, and it seemed like the Jets played back on their heels in the second half. Inopportune penalties also killed any chance to reverse momentum.
