It’s almost Halloween, and the New York Jets once again are playing like the playoffs are something to be avoided. So that means it’s time for fans to indulge in their favorite game of the last 16 years – where and who will the Jets draft this spring?
The NFL.com website has good news for the Jets followers. Right now, the provisional 2027 order gives New York picks No. 7, 10 and 11—that’s their own selection plus first-rounders acquired last season from Dallas (for defensive tackle Quinnen Williams) and Indianapolis (for cornerback Sauce Gardner).
NFL.com currently identifies quarterback, defensive tackle and cornerback among the Jets’ principal needs.
The caveat, as you might expect: The draft order will change substantially over the remaining season.
While the No. 1 pick in the draft looks to be a solid race between the winless Los Angeles Chargers and the winless Miami Dolphins, there’s room to move up for others.
The 2027 draft has long been targeted by the Jets for that elusive franchise quarterback. Although draft position and a QB is never a certainty (Zach Wilson, anyone?), the Jets would be in prime position to either move up or nab the gunslinger of their dreams if their record starts to slide.
Ironically, the worst of the three first-round draft picks the Jets are now holding is their own, coming in currently at No. 11. The Dallas Cowboys sit at No. 7 on this prelim scale, while the Indianapolis Colts, who fired their general manager this week, are at No. 10.
The Cowboys’ remaining strength of schedule is ranked 30th in the NFL, making them with a big hill to climb. But the Colts fire sale may just be beginning.
The Jets are looking like a .500 team at best, so they will likely be in the 12-14 pick in the draft if their current form holds up. That would mean they would have to bundle to move into the top ranks, presuming there’s a franchise quarterback there that they covet.
But there’s a long way to go in the season, and who knows – maybe Jets backup Cade Klubnik is the Aaron Rodgers of the New York Jets, just biding his time before seizing the long-term reins.
The Jets seem to have a solid general manager in Darren Mougey, whose 2026 class of rookies has so far looked like a solid foundation for the Jets.
Edge David Bailey was the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his 3 sacks against Cleveland, and tight end Kenyon Sadiq was voted the NFL Rookie of the Week for his 105-yard performance plus touchdown against the Detroit Lions.
The Jets may also have another Rookie of the Week coming up in Omar Cooper Jr., who returned from injury for the New England game and had more than 100 yards receiving and a touchdown.
