With the Dolphins almost assuredly getting ready to designate quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for a post-June 1 release, one of the team's AFC East rivals is reportedly doing their due diligence on the former top-five pick.
Tua was second in the league in interceptions last year to Geno Smith (despite playing one fewer game) and it seems inevitable that Miami and it's QB are headed for a divorce.
The Dolphins signed Tagovailoa to a four-year, $212.4 million contract extension back in 2024 which has made the situation a bit more complicated for the organization's front office. But if he does eventually get dropped, it sounds like a familiar foe could be waiting.

AFC East team doing 'work' on Tua Tagovailoa
Per the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the New York Jets appear to be one of the team's monitoring Tua's impending release closely as they begin work on their 2026 quarterback room.
"Tua Tagovailoa — sort of like Kyler Murray — in that if he gets cut, he is gonna be available for potentially the veteran minimum to come in and be a starting-caliber quarterback. So financially it makes a lot of sense," Garafolo said on "Good Morning Football."
"Teams are doing work on Tua from my understanding — the Jets amongst them — making some calls to get the fullest sense of who Tua is as a person. The Jets have multiple options when it comes to the quarterback situation and Tua I believe is among them."
Cardinals tell Kyler Murray he'll be released next week
The Kyler Murray era officially came to an end in Arizona yesterday as the team informed the 2019 No. 1 pick that they plan to release him next Wednesday — which sources say he preferred.
In a post to X, the QB expressed gratitude for his time with the Cardinals while also looking forward to this next chapter in his NFL journey.
"To everyone that supported me and showed kindness to my family and I during my time in AZ, from the bottom of my heart, thank you," Murray wrote. "I wanted nothing more than to be the one to end the 77 year drought for this organization, I am sorry I failed us. I wish this community and my brothers nothing but the best. I am no stranger to adversity, I am prepared for whatever's next. I trust in God and my work ethic. I truly believe my best ball is in front of me and I look forward to proving it. Godspeed."
Both Murray and Tua will be wearing a new uniform for the first in their careers next season. Now it's just a matter of which color and which font their No. 1 jerseys will be in.
