New York Jets cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. is in the concussion protocol.
Brownlee sustained the head injury during the fourth quarter of the Chicago Bears game and left the field. His progress through the league’s concussion protocol will determine whether he can face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
The NFL requires a player diagnosed with a concussion to pass a five-phase, graduated progression without symptoms before receiving final clearance from a team physician and an independent neurological consultant.
The Jets are expected to update his condition in Wednesday’s practice report.
Brownlee was a round five pick (146 overall) by the Tennessee Titans in the 2024 draft out of Florida State and then Louisville.
He played in all 17 games for the Titans in 2024, registering 46 tackles and one interception. The Jets traded for him in September 2025 for a 2026 sixth-round pick.
So far, he has been having a breakout year for the Jets. PFFhas his overall defensive grade at 75.5, which ranks him 10th out of 97 cornerbacks qualified for the ratings. His coverage grade was 76.5 (9th out of 97) and his run defense was 81.2 (12th among cornerbacks).
Brownlee is part of a young Jets secondary that was expected to grow under the on-field tutelage of veteran safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who returned from the injured reserve list for the Week 4 game against Chicago and had an interception and 16 tackles.
Whether that inspirational lesson will continue against the Browns remains to be seen.
